Despite a short break after playing on Easter Monday, the Hawks finished the stronger side and powered away to the 23.10 (148) to 15.8 (98) win after seeing off a late challenge from the Eagles.

Hawthorn jumped out to an early lead thanks to a six-goals-to-one first quarter and led at every change to record their first win of the season.

Lance Franklin kicked five goals for the Hawks and Josh Kennedy also booted five for his side.

Chris Masten led all comers with 33 possessions, while Sam Mitchell gathered 31 for Hawthorn.
