Newcastle hold off an injured ravaged Penrith 8-6 at Hunter Stadium on Saturday night.

The Knights opened the scoring through James McManus who ran 90 meters from a scrum play.

Kurt Gidley converted the wingers try and later added another two points following a penalty goal. 

8-0 at the break, Jeremy Smith was placed on report for a head slam on Matt Robinson in the 63rd minute.

Darius Boyd spilled a Luke Walsh bomb and Sika Manu collected the ball and scored a try.

Walsh converted the try to get the visitors to within two points.
