NEW Collingwood forward Jesse White is striding pain-free towards his first game with his new club next week.
White proved he has recovered from calf soreness during training yesterday and, barring a setback, he will be ready to face his old club Sydney on Saturday week.
"Today was successful, I trained about 80 per cent. Had the (opening) game been a day or two later, I probably would've played,'' he said.
"They erred on the cautious side, you don't want to turn a one-week thing into a four-week thing. I'll aim for full training on Friday and go from there.
"I had no hiccups through the pre-season and for it (soreness) to happen before round 1 was a bit of a bummer, but other than that it has all been good.''

And the text talk has already started with his former teammates on the prospect of him lining up against them at Homebush in Round 2.
"I'm really excited, not only to be playing against the Swans, but to put the new colours on for the first time in a home-and-away game,'' White said.
"There have been a few (messages) here and there, just seeing how the boys are going. I texted a few of them after the game last week.

The Magpies are eager to see Reid and White, who looked a formidable combination with Travis Cloke at stages of the pre-season, back in the side given the club managed only five goals last week.
Still smarting after the 70-point loss to the Dockers, the Magpies went through almost two hours of training yesterday.
Heritier Lumumba was the most noticeable absentee, but Eade insisted that it was purely a training load issue for the wingman-defender.
And defender Jack Frost, who will be vying for a defensive spot with Lachlan Keeffe, training indoors.
"'Clokey' (Travis Cloke) had a bad corkie so he did sort of three-quarters of the session; a few of the other guys were a bit sore," he said.
"That was just a part of 'H''s load. It was a pretty hot game (against Fremantle), so he did some work inside. He is all fine."
Collingwood will have a good look at players such as Jarryd Blair, Sam Dwyer, Alex Fasolo and Josh Thomas in the VFL on the weekend before next week finalising its squad to take on Sydney in what already looms as an important game for both sides.
White had a photo yesterday with world heavyweight boxing title contender Alex Leapai.
