FORMER England captain Michael Vaughan has leaped to the defence of Stuart Broad, saying he admires the way the controversial paceman plays the game.
In an exclusive live chat, Vaughan said many of the greats he played with and against displayed the same 'win at all costs' mentality Broad displayed during the first Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.
"He's a competitor, he's a winner," Vaughan said of Broad.
"I've played with and against many players with the same character. They've all been greats of the game.
"He's desperate to win, and that's what you want in a Test cricketer. I like his character."
Vaughan was also bemused by Cricket Australia's decision to send David Warner to Africa to play for Australia A, with the ex-England skipper saying if he was in charge he'd be playing Warner instead of Ed Cowan.
"I'd throw Warner in at No.3," Vaughan said.
"I'd have played him a Trent Bridge, he's a player England fear and know could take the game away from them.
"I wouldn't be sending him away to Africa - he can't do any worse than the No.3 at the minute.
